As the recipient of the 2025 Judge Nancy C. Dreher Pro Bono Distinguished Service Award, Spencer Fane attorney Jim Lodoen has once again been honored by the Minnesota State Bar Association Bankruptcy Section this year.
Jim received this recognition at the Section’s annual Holiday Reception on December 3 in Minneapolis in celebration of his career-long commitment to pro bono legal services “in the area of bankruptcy and debtor-creditor relations.” As the 2025 honoree, he is acknowledged for steadfast community stewardship, professional excellence, legal education, and leadership.
Earlier this year, Jim received the Raeder Larson Public Service Award from the Section.
At the firm, Jim helps businesses and entrepreneurs prepare for and resolve financial challenges, whether arising from changing market conditions, excess leverage, operational issues, or unanticipated events. His 40 years of experience dealing with all aspects of financial distress inform his counsel to clients as they consider bankruptcy, receivership, and out-of-court alternatives to preserve and maximize value, return to profitability, and restructure the business enterprise. Jim also helps secured lenders, subordinated lenders, private equity firms, and portfolio companies with the structuring and restructuring of indebtedness, monetizing of assets, and acquisition of distressed assets and businesses. Jim also has extensive experience in representing receivers and trustees in liquidating assets and in pursuing clawback and avoidance actions, with significant experience in Ponzi scheme cases.
