December 15, 2025

Spencer Fane attorney Kayla Scroggins-Uptigrove recently collaborated with ALM for the publication’s ongoing How I Made Partner series, which also featured Hannah McCalla.

In her profile – ‘It’s Imperative Young Associates Find Good Mentors,’ Says Kayla Scroggins-Uptigrove of Spencer Fane – Kayla emphasized the importance of learning from your colleagues; discussed the factors that have led to her professional growth and success; and provided tips to early-career attorneys on topics such as work-life balance, career development, and harnessing technology. In addition to championing the culture of excellence and client-first mindset she’s learned from attorneys such as Evan Stephenson and Terence Ridley, Kayla also discussed the importance of being present and involved.

“Nothing replaces the relationships and learning that happen face-to-face,” she said. Later in her Q&A, she discussed her participation in firmwide initiatives: “At Spencer Fane, I’m heavily involved in recruitment and hiring at both the associate and summer associate levels, and I often serve as a writing mentor for summer associates. Through these roles, I hope to help shape the next generation of excellent trial lawyers.”

At Spencer Fane, Kayla helps clients successfully navigate complex civil litigation with an emphasis on insurance, commercial, and class action lawsuits at the trial and appellate levels. In her trial work, she has gained significant experience examining expert and fact witnesses, including cross-examination of party-opponents. Kayla’s skillful reputation has earned her industrywide recognition from Best Lawyers in America and Colorado Super Lawyers.
