Pete Hartweger Joins Board for ScrapsKC

November 7, 2025

Spencer Fane attorney Peter Hartweger was recently named a Board Member for ScrapsKC, an organization dedicated to creative upcycling.

Since its founding in 2016, ScrapsKC has been dedicated to supporting teachers and students by providing free classroom supplies to educators for their students while promoting environmental responsibility. Through the collection and redistribution of gently used and surplus materials, ScrapsKC has diverted more than 500 tons of materials from landfills and placed them back into classrooms for educational and creative use. In 2025 alone, the Teacher Resource Center (TRC) at Scraps KC distributed over $500,000 worth of free supplies to local classrooms, positively impacting more than 60,000 students. Beyond classroom materials, the TRC also provides food, clothing, and hygiene items to students in need through their teachers, helping ensure every child has the basic resources to succeed. This work equips teachers, transforms student learning, reduces waste, and strengthens the Kansas City education community. As one of the organization’s leaders, Pete will help advance these efforts and expand TRC’s reach and impact.

At Spencer Fane, Pete is a valued member of the firm’s Business Transactions group with an emphasis on mergers and acquisitions, general business, and pass-through entities. Pete’s practice also involves representing closely held businesses; counseling them on contract, employment, tax, licensing, ownership matters, and corporate governance; and the day-to-day issues encountered by these businesses.

Pete has a thriving mergers and acquisition practice, representing both the buy-side and the sell-side on various types of business acquisitions. His clients are in a wide-range of industries, including wealth management, financial planning, manufacturing, broadcasting, engineering, transportation, construction, technology, health care, and temporary labor.
