Spencer Fane attorney David E. Waters has joined the Board of Directors for United Community Services (UCS) of Johnson County.
Since 1967, UCS has been the catalyst and resource to ensure that the human service system meets the needs of Johnson County, Kansas, residents. The core work of UCS is illuminating needs and solutions through education and advocacy, fostering a framework for collaboration through mobilizing and planning, and prioritizing community investments through targeted resource allocation.
In the announcement, David shared, “While I may be now helping lead its future direction, I am more appreciative of all that UCS and its partners can help teach me about our community, our needs, and how we solve the biggest issues. UCS provides both the ‘courage’ and the ‘encouragement’ for communities to take on what can appear to be difficult or impossible challenges. UCS makes it possible for us to approach those conversations with accurate, valuable data and information, but also with grace and understanding.”
At Spencer Fane, David helps a diverse network of clients in the governmental, business, health care, and hospitality industries successfully handle the full range of legal needs related to successful real estate transactions, ensuring projects stay on time and on budget. He also currently serves as the Overland Park Office Managing Partner.
David’s municipal and public law work extends to local cities and school districts, and he counsels these clients with respect to governmental authority and procedures, economic development, legislative policy, and administrative enforcement. Uniquely, he also serves as an elected official and is currently the mayor of Westwood, Kansas, in the Kansas City metro area. He is a member of the board of directors for the City Attorneys Association of Kansas and is Immediate Past-President of the Kansas Mayors Association.
