This webinar focuses on the legal process and implications of establishing a national holiday. We cover the legal framework of national holidays, including the bipartisan support that led to Juneteenth’s inclusion in U.S. Code Title 5, Section 6103. Insights on the lobbying efforts, the walk, and the online petition that were instrumental in this achievement will be shared.
Additionally, we will explore the role of legal advocacy in civil rights movements, drawing historical parallels from the pre-Civil War era to the present day. The discussion will emphasize the importance of legal knowledge in protecting and advancing civil liberties.
