Spencer Fane attorney Peter Goplerud recently spoke on the hot collegiate sports topic of name, image, and likeness (NIL) deals, agreements, and contracts at the 49th Annual Sports Lawyers Association (SLA) Conference, which this year centered on “Where Sports and Culture Collide,” on May 11 in Baltimore.
As part of the four-day event’s program, Peter moderated the panel Amateur Status Considerations for Collegiate Athletes. He was joined by Jill Bodensteiner, the Athletics Director at St. Josephs’s University; Michele Roberts, the Former Executive Director of NBPA; and Tarun Sharma, Founder of the NIL Legal Clinic at the University of Minnesota Law School.
At Spencer Fane, Peter serves as of counsel in the Higher Education practice. With a focus on higher education and sports law, he is a frequent lecturer and is widely published in the sports law area, including serving as co-author of leading textbooks on the subject. Peter has been a member of the Sports Lawyers Association Board of Directors since 1997.
