Along with 3 other panelists, Spencer Fane Partner Thomas Hayde participated in a “Table of Experts” discussion regarding cyber security that was hosted by and published in the St. Louis Business Journal.
In the discussion, Thomas and the other panel members addressed topics including recent large-scale data breaches, policies and procedures that companies need to put in place, why companies aren’t proactively addressing data security, and what organizations and individuals can do to mitigate risk.
Regarding risk, Thomas advises in the discussion that businesses adopt written policies and procedures that fit their business operations and IT structure, obtain cybersecurity insurance, and develop relationships with expert outside counsel before a data security incident occurs, not after.
As a privacy professional, Thomas Hayde aids clients in developing comprehensive strategies to address information practices and data breach risks, avoid potential claims and liabilities, and ensure compliance with all relevant legal requirements. Tom also helps clients develop and implement protocols surrounding how to respond when a data breach occurs and defends clients against potential claims and lawsuits regarding data breaches. He has experience defending against and resolving civil claims and enforcement actions under specific information privacy laws, such as FCRA, GLBA, HIPAA and RFPA.
