Spencer Fane LLP is pleased to announce the addition of Partner Melissa Sherman to the firm’s Litigation Group in the Overland Park, Kansas office.
Sherman has helped clients resolve their legal issues successfully and efficiently for more than 15 years. She has extensive trial and appellate experience and has effectively argued her clients’ cases in state and federal courts. One of her most recent victories was obtaining a summary judgment on behalf of the City of Topeka, Kansas in a $4 million case involving Jayhawk Racing, which claimed the city was responsible for buying its failing Heartland Park race track.
“Whether presenting a case to a jury or facing opposing counsel at the negotiation table, Melissa is extremely effective and a tremendous advocate for her clients,” said Patrick J. Whalen, Spencer Fane Managing Partner. “For Melissa, there are no routine trials, meetings or negations. She shares our firm’s belief that every case and every client matters.”
In addition to litigation, Sherman specializes in representing small and mid-sized companies, as well as governmental entities, in all aspects of eminent domain and condemnation law. She also serves as outside general counsel to businesses in an array of industries, including health care, real estate and financial services.
Sherman is a well-respected attorney and has been recognized in Super Lawyers for Kansas and Missouri nearly every year since 2009. She also received an AV Preeminent Rating by Martindale-Hubbell.
Sherman, who earned her law degree at the University of Kansas, is active in several professional organizations and serves on the Board of Directors for the Earl E. O’Connor American Inn of the Court.
