Attorney Aims to Bring More Business to Downtown Kansas City

Spencer Fane LLP is pleased to announce Partner Nate Orr was recently elected board chairman of the Downtown Council (DTC) of Kansas City, a nonprofit dedicated to creating a vibrant, diverse and economically sustainable downtown.

As board chairman, Nate will work with the organization’s president and CEO, Bill Dietrich, and staff to help shape and implement DTC’s 2018 business plan. Nate has been a member of the board for several years, served as vice-chairman for the past two years, and is also co-chair of DTC’s Annual Luncheon in January.

“My focus the coming year is to further downtown’s effort to attract and retain corporate relocations,” said Nate. “We have spent the last several years developing residential units, retail amenities and regional cultural assets. With the arrival of the streetcar, the daily working environment for businesses and employees in the downtown area has never been better.”

DTC’s more than 300 members include companies, property owners, arts and cultural groups and other organizations committed to maintaining a vibrant downtown. It has been a critical partner in several regional initiatives, including the new KCI terminal, the city’s streetcar system, the creation of the Downtown Community Improvement District, and Art in the Loop.

“Through his work with DTC, Nate has shown his commitment to protecting and promoting downtown and played an important role in its revitalization over the past several years,” said Dietrich. “His insights, knowledge and dedication make him the ideal person to lead DTC in its efforts to continue downtown’s growth as a place where people want to visit, live, work and play.”

At Spencer Fane, Nate serves as outside general counsel for his clients, managing their legal matters across all the firm’s practice areas and ensuring that clients get the best and most responsive representation possible for their unique matters. In doing so, he takes the lead role in coordinating clients’ projects in litigation and government affairs. He uses his community involvement to make critical connections for his clients.

Nate has received numerous industry accolades, including Super Lawyers top-rated business litigation attorney, Ingram’s Magazine’s 40 Under Forty Award, Missouri Lawyers Weekly’s Up & Coming Attorneys Award, and Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association (KCMBA)’s Young Lawyer of the Year Award. He currently serves as President Elect for KCMBA.

Nate graduated cum laude from St. Louis University School of Law, where he served as a faculty fellow and a member of the Alpha Sigma Nu National Jesuit Honor Society. He received his bachelor’s degree with honors from the University of Kansas.
