As reported by the Kansas City Business Journal, Spencer Fane is nearing completion of the $5.5 million renovation and expansion of its Kansas City headquarters located in the Commerce Bank building at 1000 Walnut St. Last April, the firm announced that it would recommit to its current office space, which resides in the heart of Downtown Kansas City, by signing a new 12-year lease. Firm Chairman Pat Whalen told the Journal that the work is expected to be complete by summer 2015 and will leave the firm’s three floors of offices “brighter, more open and more collaborative.” The refreshed office space will provide the firm’s attorneys and staff an improved work environment and also additional space to meet with clients. “We really wanted the space to reflect both how we’ve evolved and how we collaborate and also for there to be more dedicated space to working directly with clients,” Whalen said. Despite attractive offers from other Kansas City locations including the Country Club Plaza and Crown Center, as well as the opportunity to move the entire office across state lines and consolidate with its Overland Park, Kan., office, Spencer Fane remained loyal to the location which has housed its offices for the past 30 years. “We knew this area was taking off and Downtown is the place to be,” Whalen said.
