Spencer Fane LLP is pleased to announce Jim Baglini, Jr. will join the firm’s Phoenix office as an associate in the Intellectual Property Practice Group.
Baglini provides clients thoughtful counsel leaning on years of experience in technology and engineering, crafting innovative industry-specific strategies and managing legal matters important to businesses of all sizes, entrepreneurs and innovators. He brings more than 10 years of business and technical experience in the aerospace and engineering industries to his legal practice, giving him unique insight into understanding issues and how to provide clear interpretations to applicable laws.
Baglini aligns IP needs within a client’s overall business strategy, handling proprietary information to assist businesses in identifying monetizable assets and protecting them. He also regularly helps clients navigate contract negotiation, review and enforcement, including supply chain management and drafting enforceable non-disclosure agreements for partners and employees and high-value agreements with larger corporations or governmental entities.
Additionally, Baglini works with clients to develop and deploy successful legal strategies so they can avoid potential forfeiture of data rights to suppliers or customers.

Baglini joins a team of three IP attorneys in the Spencer Fane Phoenix office, strengthening the bench in the local market. “As we continue to grow our preparation and prosecution abilities in Phoenix we’ve focused on finding laterals that truly understand our clients’ businesses,” said Steven Laureanti, IP lead in Phoenix and a partner for Spencer Fane. “Jim brings a wealth of knowledge in the technology and engineering sectors that will make a great addition to our practice, and expand our ability to serve our clients.”
Prior to entering private practice, Baglini served as Lead for Intellectual Management at a global aerospace engineering company dedicated to creating and delivering advanced systems, products and services. He also spent time there as a Principal Propulsion Engineer before transitioning to handle IP and related legal needs.
Baglini’s other experience in engineering includes stints as a Senior Project Engineer in aircraft interiors work for an aerospace company with a national presence, Senior Propulsion Engineer for a multi-discipline launch vehicle team, and Design Engineer working with explosive-driven mechanical devices and assemblies. He completed his undergraduate studies in chemical engineering at the University of Notre Dame and obtained his Master’s of Science in materials science and engineering from Arizona State University’s Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering. He later returned to school and earned his Juris Doctor from Arizona State’s Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law.
