In its December issue, Ingram’s magazine published an article by Spencer Fane Partner Scott Blakesley offering insight into the allocation of personal assets to charitable causes.
In the article, Scott discusses the importance of making sure funds are used as the donor intends. “When talking with the charities you are considering, don’t hesitate to ask difficult questions about how your donations will be used, or to inquire regarding other aspects of how they carry out their charitable mission. There are countless options for your charitable dollars, and you should only donate to those charities with which you feel most comfortable.” He goes on to mention that the establishment of charitable funds and charitable trusts can also help accomplish a donor’s goals.
