Overview
Gene Cherng is a member of the firm’s Intellectual Property practice. Admitted to the patent bar, he has successfully represented patent owners and accused infringers alike in the district courts and the U.S. Patent Office in cases involving technologies in the software, electrical, and mechanical arts.
Specifically, Gene has significant experience with dynamic random-access memory, augmented reality, video and audio encoding, inductors and electrical components, network-attached storage, flash memory, intelligent power distribution units, modular power supplies, display mounts, and web locator services. He has also represented clients in trade secret, copyright, and trademark cases.
Prior to law school, Gene worked as a bioanalyst in a major pharmaceutical company.

- Represented a semiconductor manufacturer and technological research and development company in patent litigation in which certain semiconductors, audio and video encoding and decoding devices, and content delivery networks were accused of infringing plaintiffs’ patents. In addition, represented the clients in inter partes review proceedings regarding the patents in suit.
- Secured dismissal at the pleadings stage for a client accused of infringing a patent and misappropriating trade secrets involving emotion-detecting videoconferencing technology.
- Defended a blogger against copyright infringement and DMCA CMI removal claims.
- Represented a patent owner in case against a major tennis racquet manufacturer in smart racquet technology.
