Bruce Cavitt is a retired partner with Spencer Fane, where his practice regularly included business law, real estate law, and the environmental aspects of business and real estate transactions. He has been active in national real estate practice groups, having served on, among others, the ABA Real Property, Probate & Trust Law Section’s Standing Committee on Continuing Legal Education, and the Section Planning Committee. He has also served as Co-Chair of the Real Property Division’s Continuing Legal Education Committee, Chair of the Assignment and Subleasing Committee, and served in leadership roles on several other committees in the ABA’s Commercial Leasing Group.
Bruce has authored numerous articles, which have been published in Probate & Property magazine, The Commercial Property Lease, and other publications of the ABA, as well as other legal organizations. He has spoken at a number of national programs, including several ABA Annual Meetings and ABA Real Property, Probate & Trust Law Section Annual Spring Symposia. He has been listed in “The Best Lawyers in America” (11th ed. 2005; 12th ed. 2006).
Bruce attended Ripon College and the University of Kansas, from which he received his bachelor’s degree in physics in 1967. After serving as a Captain in the U.S. Army Ordnance Corps, he joined Burroughs Corporation (now Unisys) in 1971, where he served as sales manager for computer systems in Kansas City until he entered law school in 1978. He graduated first in his class from the University of Kansas School of Law in 1980, received the Order of the Coif and served on the Law Review. Upon graduation he joined Spencer Fane. He is admitted to practice in Missouri and Kansas, and before the Supreme Court of the United States.
