As featured in numerous local, national and industry media, California-based craft brewer Firestone Walker announced late last week that the company would merge with Belgian brewer and Boulevard Brewing Co. owner Duvel Moortgat. Spencer Fane Partner Mike McCann represented Firestone in the deal and previously represented Boulevard in their deal with Duvel in October 2013. Firestone will continue to operate under the leadership of David Walker and Adam Firestone who announced that the deal with Duvel would allow both brewers to “broaden their capacity and scope as brewers.” As legal counsel to Firestone in the deal, McCann’s primary role was to ensure that the deal met the company’s goals and objectives – both financially and otherwise. McCann has extensive experience in representing major craft brewers in mergers and acquisitions including a deal in November 2014 in which he represented the craft brewer 10 Barrel in its sale to Anheuser-Busch InBev.
