Mike Hockley Honored by American College of Environmental Lawyers for His Distinguished Presidency

Spencer Fane attorney Mike Hockley was honored by the American College of Environmental Lawyers (ACOEL) on October 7 for his distinguished term as the organization’s 2021-2022 President.

In his final act as President, Mike delivered an annual progress report and turned his gavel over to his successor. To commemorate his service, the Executive Committee presented Mike with a resolution that highlights and expresses appreciation for his monumental contributions to the College’s mission. The resolution recognized Mike for his “wisdom, balanced judgment, agile leadership, steady demeanor, and dedication.” It also summarized achievements such as Mike’s endeavors to overcome pandemic challenges, establish an environmental justice task force, grow membership diversity, and enhance governance and financial stability.

Admission to ACOEL, a professional association of illustrious environmental lawyers, is an exclusive opportunity extended to those who are recognized by their peers as preeminent in their field. In addition to his presidency, Mike has also served as ACOEL’s Treasurer and currently is on the ACOEL Foundation Board of Trustees and Advisory Council.

At Spencer Fane, Mike’s practice concentrates on litigation, environmental law, and renewable energy with an emphasis on environmental litigation, regulatory permitting, and environmental enforcement proceedings. He also leverages additional leadership experience in numerous other civic and professional organizations. These include Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army for Kansas (East), Trustee and Immediate Past Chair of the Command and General Staff College Foundation, and Chair of the Overland Park Chamber Public Policy & Advocacy Committee.
