Spencer Fane LLP is pleased to announce that Duvel “DJ” Pierre has joined the firm as an associate in its business litigation practice.
As a former Assistant City Prosecutor for the City of Kansas City, Pierre brings considerable litigation experience to the firm, having conducted more than 60 extended trials for the city during the past four years. He is known for his problem-solving skills, drive and commitment to improving the community. He also serves on several mayoral commissions to effect positive change in the Kansas City area.

As an Assistant City Prosecutor, Pierre helped the city handle an estimated 350,000 cases filed in municipal court each year. He tried cases in numerous areas, including domestic violence, simple assault, and stealing. He also represented more than 1,300 individuals on family law issues while serving as a staff attorney for the Legal Aid of Western Missouri, before joining the city prosecutor’s office.
Pierre has held numerous leadership positions within professional and nonprofit organizations. He was appointed by Mayor Sly James to serve on the Mayor’s Citizen Task Force on Violence and the Environmental Management Commission. Currently, he serves as President of the board for Literacy KC, and Vice President of board for Committee for County Progress (CCP). Pierre is also active in the Newhouse domestic violence shelter and the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association Young Lawyers’ Section.
He earned his law degree from the University of Iowa in Iowa City and his undergraduate degree from Loyola University in Chicago.
