Spencer Fane has a rich history dating back to 1879. The firm has had a full service business orientation since its founding. While we have grown over the years, the original intention of the founding partners remains the same – to provide legal services where your business leaders work with our business leaders – with integrity and with your individual needs in mind.
1879
William Tell Johnson and John Lucas move their legal practice from Osceola, MO to Kansas City, forming the roots of the law firm Johnson, Lucas, Graves & Fane.
1952
Johnson, Lucas, Graves & Fane merge with Spencer Britt & Browne to form Spencer Fane Britt & Browne LLP. Under the guidance of Byron Spencer, Irvin Fane, James Britt, and Harry Browne, the firm grows throughout the region.
1983
To respond to client growth throughout the Kansas City metropolitan area, the firm adds an office in Overland Park, KS.
2001
Spencer Fane Britt & Browne expands regionally to best serve the growing needs of our clients by establishing an office in St. Louis, MO.
2004
As our clients expand their presence into Nebraska and the Dakotas, Spencer Fane Britt & Browne opens an office in Omaha, NE.
2009
The firm opens an office in the state capitol of Jefferson City, MO to help clients align their needs with those of the state government.
2012
Our regional footprint expands to Colorado to continue to grow with our clients, as the firm opens an office in Denver.
2014
As a natural outgrowth of client needs in our current locations, the firm grows its presence in both Missouri and Colorado, opening offices in Springfield, MO and Colorado Springs, CO.
2016
Our clients’ legal needs continue to expand geographically, and now as Spencer Fane LLP, the firm grows accordingly. We open offices in Oklahoma City, OK, Cape Girardeau, MO, and nearly double the number of attorneys in our offices in Denver and Colorado Springs, CO.
2017
To serve client needs expanding to western states, we add offices in Phoenix, AZ and Las Vegas, NV.
2018
Our clients’ needs grow in Texas, and Spencer Fane expands to meet those needs with offices in Dallas and Plano.
2019
The firm continued to expand its services in 2019 to align with the evolving needs of our clients, opening offices in Tampa, FL, Minneapolis, MN, Houston, TX, and Dakota Dunes, SD.
2020
Reinforcing our commitment to serving our growing client base wherever they do business, the firm adds an office in Austin, TX.
2021
Focused on the needs of our clients, Spencer Fane expands in the South East by entering the Nashville, TN market with the addition of two offices and nearly 40 attorneys.
