They’d just stepped out for a break when they heard the mall security guard shout, “Help, help, help, somebody please help, stop this guy!”

So Paul Shoemaker, 27, and co-worker Mike McGee, 25, did what they were taught as kids.

“You help people when they need help,” Shoemaker said.

The pair gave chase through Denver’s Cherry Creek Shopping Center that Friday, April 16. They didn’t know what the guy had under his jacket. Could have been a purse or even a baby.

Turned out it was only stolen software, which Shoemaker and McGee discovered when they apprehended the man and waited for police.

The 29-year-old suspect was arrested and spent three days in jail after pleading guilty to disturbing the peace and shoplifting from the Apple computer store near the Sprint outlet where Shoemaker and McGee worked.
