With more than 30 years of experience representing, and working with, nonprofit organizations, Spencer Fane is proud to announce our newest practice group, Nonprofit & Tax-Exempt Organizations.
Spencer Fane provides legal services to a wide range of Nonprofit and Tax-Exempt Organizations across the country including hospitals, colleges and universities, social service organizations, religious organizations, cultural institutions, and private and public foundations.
We establish and maintain the tax-exempt status of public charities and private foundations, advise our clients on the deductibility of charitable contributions, assist with creating direct and deferred charitable giving plans and programs, advise on board governance issues, develop policies and corporate compliance programs, and provide advice on employment laws and employee benefits as they apply to nonprofit and tax-exempt organizations. Further, we regularly provide advice concerning the application of federal tax laws, regulatory compliance, and federal and state securities, insurance and charitable solicitation laws to the operation of such organizations.
Leading the group’s development are three of Spencer Fane’s newest attorneys. Located in our St. Louis office, Ed Holderle, Len Pranschke and Ravi Sundara bring a wealth of experience in nonprofit law, serving as loyal advisors to their nonprofit and tax-exempt clients with respect to virtually all matters affecting them. When the group came to Spencer Fane this past summer they were energized by the multiple office locations, and level of talent in the firm. “Spencer Fane offered us a bigger platform to do the work we love” said Sundara. In the next few years, they hope to grow with the addition of clients, as well as additional attorneys who specialize in the practice. Each addition to the group they see as a benefit to the client.
Spencer Fane provides a holistic approach to representation of nonprofit and tax-exempt organizations. We are active in the nonprofit community as members of boards. We regularly speak on topics specific to nonprofit organizations and provide training on a variety of issues. Our attorneys have experience in many disciplines and as a result also serve in other practice groups within the Firm. This cross-discipline approach provides our clients with a critical broad base perspective.
