Jack Coatar

Overview
Jack Coatar is an Of Counsel in the Litigation, Governmental Affairs, and Real Estate Practice groups. He helps individuals and businesses navigate state and local government and assists client’s with complex litigation matters.
In addition to practicing at Spencer Fane, Jack serves as 7th Ward Alderman in the City of St. Louis. He is currently the youngest member of the Board of Aldermen and serves on a number of key Aldermanic committees, including the Public Safety Committee and the Housing, Urban Development and Zoning Committee. Prior to joining the Board of Aldermen, Jack gained valuable litigation and trial experience as a prosecutor in the Circuit Attorney’s Office.
Jack is also a political campaign veteran, having worked on numerous state and local campaigns through Missouri. Most recently, Jack was the Voter Protection Coordinator for U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill’s 2012 reelection campaign. Prior to that, Jack served as Executive Director of the St. Louis City Democratic Central Committee. Jack began his political career as a staff member of Barack Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign and then as a member of Mayor Francis G. Slay’s 2009 reelection campaign.
Jack is a 2012 graduate of Saint Louis University School of Law and also a 2008 graduate of SLU where he majored in economics and political science.
