Helping startups and new emerging companies succeed is central to the economic well-being of Kansas City and its residents. This concept is what helped drive Spencer Fane LLP to found the Spencer Fane STARTUP Lab. Once every quarter, the Spencer Fane STARTUP Lab will select a startup company in the Kansas City region and offer 3 months of free legal consultation, along with mentoring and facilitating meaningful industry introductions.
“We wanted the lab to be more than just about offering free legal services,” said Patrick McAndrews, Co-Chair of the Spencer Fane STARTUP Lab. “It’s hard for startups to find new customers or make important industry contacts. That’s why we wanted to build a program that provided startups with not only free legal services, but access to our resources and contacts.”
The Spencer Fane STARTUP Lab offers true business startups a full suite of legal services that will prove to be paramount for future success. The program also includes monthly mentoring lunches and facilitated introductions to larger established companies in the region that may be interested in strategic partnerships.
“We have a number of clients who were startups 20 or 30 years ago and are now successful companies,” said Carly Duvall, Co-Chair the Spencer Fane STARTUP Lab. “When we approached them about the lab and assisting with mentoring, they couldn’t have been more excited to help.”

The deadline to submit applications is September 16, 2019. If you don’t believe you’re at stage where you feel you can apply for the program, don’t worry.
