Spencer Fane attorney Sheri Jacobs joined a panel to discuss opportunities for successful energy development projects at the American Bar Association Section of Environment, Energy, and Resources’ (ABA SEER) 30th Fall Conference on September 22 in Nashville, Tennessee.
During the presentation, Empowering Local Communities and Contaminated Sites: Environmental Justice and Brownfield Energy Redevelopment, Sheri spoke about Federal grant opportunities for Brownfields Projects. She also highlighted multiple success stories involving Brownfields sites across Tennessee that have positively impacted the community.
In addition, the panel discussed the reuse of abandoned coal mining sites and outlined how the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and the Build Back Better Act impact Brownfield redevelopment. The Biden administration’s focus on environmental justice, which includes the Justice40 initiative, plays a part in this new landscape.
Sheri was joined on the panel by Josephus Allmond, Southern Environmental Law Center; and Gregory Young, Tennessee Department of Environment & Conservation. Lawrence Pittman, Environmental Protection Agency Region 6, served as the moderator.
