Spencer Fane LLP is pleased to announce the hiring of Mathew Petersen as an associate in the Financial Services practice group in the firm’s Kansas City office.

A summer associate at Spencer Fane in 2015, 2016, and 2017, Peterson worked as a legal assistant in Washington, D.C. prior to law school and coached for the Harvard University’s Debate Council. He recently completed his Juris Doctor and MBA from the University of Kansas.

“Mathew brings a unique set of experiences to his work in Spencer Fane,” said Patrick J. Whalen, Managing Partner for Spencer Fane. “We are happy to have him remain in the Kansas City area, adding to the depth of our services provided in this region.”

During law school, Petersen served as editor-in-chief for Volume 66 of the University of Kansas Law Review and participated on the Moot Court Council, representing the school in the National Moot Court and National Native American Law School Association competitions. In the School’s 2017 In-House Moot Court Competition, Petersen received honors for Best Oral Advocate and Best Brief. Petersen was also honored at graduation with Pro Bono Distinction for having completed more than 50 hours of pro bono work while in law school, and the Robert F.
