John Browning Receives Maurice Merrill Golden Quill Award

October 19, 2021

Spencer Fane attorney John Browning was recently honored by the Oklahoma Bar Association (OBA) with the Maurice Merrill Golden Quill Award, which goes to “the author of the best-written article published this year in the Oklahoma Bar Journal.”

This annual award is named after a longtime University of Oklahoma Law professor, a lauded legal author. Each year recipients are presented the award at the OBA Annual Meeting. John was recognized for his article featured in the May 2021 issue of the Oklahoma Bar Journal, “Blazing the Trail: Oklahoma Pioneer African American Attorneys.”

At Spencer Fane, John is a litigator and views his role as a trial lawyer to be that of a problem-solver for his clients. He is the author of numerous articles and several books, including many on African American legal history. He also has received Texas’s top awards for legal writing, legal ethics, and contributions to CLE.
