Spencer Fane attorney John Browning recently published two articles on historical topics in the Oklahoma Bar Journal.
In John’s article titled “Blazing the Trail: Oklahoma Pioneer African American Attorneys,” he outlined the stories of Oklahoma’s earliest African American lawyers.
John’s second article, “The Tulsa Race Massacre: Echoes of 1921 Felt a Century Later” described the Tulsa Race Massacre and the ongoing lawsuits from survivors. John also noted the need to learn from this tragedy, quoting civil rights activist James Baldwin in the article, “[n]ot everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced.”
At Spencer Fane, John focuses his practice on litigation and dispute resolution matters. He views his role as a trial lawyer to be that of a problem-solver for his clients. John serves on the Board of Trustees for the Texas Supreme Court Historical Society and is often called upon to write about historical legal topics.
