May 4, 2022

Spencer Fane attorney John Browning was recently featured in articles in American Lawyer Media (ALM) publications, For The Defense magazine, the Journal of the Texas Supreme Court Historical Society, and the International Association of Defense Counsel’s (IADC) newsletter.

John covered several topics, including technology, digital media, litigator reputations, and history.

In the Texas Lawyer article “What’s Driving the ‘Dramatic Uptick’ in Judges’ Social Media Slipups?” John gives an overview of social media’s impact on the legal industry. He discusses the increase in social media usage by judges and attorneys and presents examples of misuse, emphasizing the importance of properly training legal professionals on social media technology. He also wrote an article published in For The Defense magazine covering social media posts and nonsolicitation provisions.

In another article for Law.com, John describes why professional and personal reputations are important for litigators. “It takes years to build a reputation, but that reputation can unravel with frightening speed based on one ill-advised act or statement—particularly in the Digital Age,” John explains. He was also a featured guest on a Law.com podcast covering social media in the legal industry.

John also published the Editor-In-Chief’s Column (page 7) in a recent issue of the Journal of the Texas Supreme Court Historical Society and wrote the article, “Who Was Texas’ First Native American Lawyer? The Answer is Complicated,” (page 9). In addition, he was featured in a recent active ally profile in the IADC’s diversity, equity, and inclusion committee newsletter.
