Diane Minear Shares Affirmative Asylum Law Experience with Missouri Lawyers Media

February 3, 2023

Spencer Fane attorney Diane Minear recently authored an article published by Missouri Lawyers Media that outlines the United States affirmative asylum process through the lens of her own pro bono case.

The article, Commentary: My Experience with Affirmative Asylum Law, was first published on the firm’s website and details how Diane and her client, an Afghan refugee, performed the seven steps of affirmative asylum. She also reflected on the challenges and feelings the case fostered.

“Affirmative asylum is the most satisfying work I have done,” Diane said. “It sounds like a cliché, but it changed me. I learned a lot about Spencer Fane and the sincerity of our core values. I learned that communication is more than spoken words, and every client deserves our best efforts. Most importantly, I learned it is easy to talk about making changes and standing up for what you believe in. Putting your words into action requires more than talking about it. It took [my client] courage to flee her country, her culture, and her family. Her courage inspired me.”

At Spencer Fane, Diane develops and implements systems designed to reduce risk and mitigate compliance issues in a manner that allows health care clients to maintain continuity while focusing on quality patient care. Leaning on 15 years of broad government experience, Diane brings a unique perspective to her private practice that includes general health care matters, compliance, contracts, and administrative and insurance law.
