Spencer Fane attorney Daniel Chung organized, attended, and led recent events for the Korean American Bar Association of Northern California (KABANC), an organization for which he is incoming president.
On February 1, Daniel represented KABANC at the 2025 California Asian Pacific American Bar Association (Cal-APABA) Presidents & Presidents-Elect Summit. This virtual summit hosted dozens of California bar association leaders for three hours of meaningful discussion and breakout sessions. Topics included creating resilient boards, developing innovative fundraising strategies, and advocating for civic engagement in challenging times.
Later that Saturday, Daniel organized KABANC’s South Bay Lunar New Year dinner. Several attorneys and law students gathered at Ilbunjee, a Korean BBQ restaurant in Santa Clara, California, for a celebratory meal and karaoke.
Daniel then led a KABANC court tour of the Hall of Justice in San Francisco on February 26. He was joined by local law students, seven South Korean judges and prosecutors, and South Korean Consul General Lim Jung-taek on this opportunity to discover the workings of the criminal justice system for the San Francisco County Superior Court. Judges Marisa Chun, Harry Dorfman, and Vernon Nakahara welcomed the tour group to their courtrooms, spoke with the group, and answered questions. The tour also had the privilege of observing closing arguments and a preliminary hearing. After the experience, the group was warmly welcomed at the South Korean consulate in San Francisco by Consul General Lim Jung-taek.
Most recently, Daniel helped organize and lead KABANC’s 40th Anniversary Gala in San Francisco on March 1. Spencer Fane was pleased to serve as platinum sponsor of the event, which was attended by over 200 lawyers, judges, law students, dignitaries, and other community supporters. In addition to remarks and award presentations from distinguished guests such as Consul General Lim Jung-taek, California State Senator Scott Wiener, San Francisco Sheriff Paul Miyamoto, and San Francisco District 3 Supervisor Danny Sauter, civil rights attorney and community organizer Charles Jung was honored as KABANC’s Legal Professional of the Year for his significant contributions to uplifting the AAPI community and fighting for victims of violence, hatred, and discrimination.
At Spencer Fane, Daniel is an experienced trial attorney who helps clients through all stages of litigation and dispute resolution. A former criminal prosecutor in New York City and Silicon Valley, he adeptly navigates high-stakes investigations, hearings, arbitrations, and trials. Active in the San Francisco Bay Area community, Daniel holds leadership positions not just in KABANC but also in the Asian Pacific American Bar Association of Silicon Valley and volunteers for many organizations including NAACP, KACF-SF, Bellarmine, and Harvard.
