Spencer Fane LLP is pleased to announce Austin Ciuffo joined the Intellectual Property practice group as an associate in the firm’s Greenville office.
Ciuffo provides an additional resource to support ongoing growth for Spencer Fane in the Southeast. His private practice focuses on collaborative client service for inventors, entrepreneurs, and businesses in high-stakes patent litigation throughout the U.S. He litigates infringement cases in a wide variety of technologies, including semiconductors, software, internet and financial transaction security, virtual and augmented reality, intelligent systems, and digital media.
Prior to entering private practice, Ciuffo helped develop an industry-leading patent litigation funding program that enables patent owners to recoup infringement damages from major defendants. He works with litigation funders, IP consultants, and damages experts and utilizes his financial expertise and prior litigation funding experience to counsel clients on funding proposals, damages analysis, and optimal damages structures.
“As the firm’s footprint expands in the region, we remain committed to providing clients with direct access to attorneys capable of handling the full scope of their legal needs,” said Kurt Rozelsky, Office Managing Partner for Spencer Fane in Greenville. “Spencer Fane looks forward to supporting Austin’s growth as an attorney while offering efficient and practical counsel to address IP matters aligned with overall business goals and objectives.”
“We are pleased to add Austin to our bench in support of our full range of legal services related to IP,” said Erick Robinson, Co-Chair of the Intellectual Property practice group at Spencer Fane. “As our clients see additional need in this increasingly complex area of law, the firm will continue to proactively provide the resources required to successfully resolve patent litigation matters.”
After completing his undergraduate studies at Wofford College, Ciuffo earned an MBA from the University of South Carolina’s Darla Moore School of Business and his Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law. He completed a judicial internship with the Hon. David C. Norton in the U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina.
Ciuffo also serves as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Reserve. He is regularly appointed to conduct Uniform Code of Miliary Justice (UCMJ) Article 15 investigations and serves as a certified Victim Advocate. He has been selected to continue his service in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General (JAG) Corps.
