Dan Nelson and Pat McInerney Author Missouri Lawyers Weekly Article on New Department of Justice Policies

Spencer Fane attorneys Dan Nelson and Pat McInerney recently opined on new Department of Justice (DOJ) developments in a guest article for Missouri Lawyers Weekly, a news outlet published by Missouri Lawyers Media.

The article, “Commentary: DAG Lisa Monaco Announces Additional Corporate Enforcement Priorities,” was first published on the firm’s website and outlines new DOJ policies surrounding corporate criminal enforcement. The team acknowledged that the DOJ’s “carrot and stick” approach is now tougher toward white-collar and corporate crime and reviewed DOJ’s new priorities as recently outlined by the Deputy Attorney General.

“At a minimum, companies should revisit their internal priorities and culture around compliance, detection, investigation, remediation, and sanction of wrongdoing,” they suggested as action items toward organizational changes that include voluntary self-disclosure incentives.

Practicing in Spencer Fane’s White Collar and Government Investigation group, Dan leans on his vast experience in business law, prosecution and case management to provide clients with creative and efficient counsel focusing on complex, high-stakes litigation matters. Dan helps provide his clients with pathways to successful resolutions through preventive measures and the full spectrum of dispute-resolution methods.

Pat utilizes over two decades of experience as a trial lawyer, having first-chaired many high-profile and complex cases in federal and state courts. As a former state and federal prosecutor, Pat’s background in prosecuting organized crime and public corruption gives him a unique understanding of investigative and prosecution priorities and allows him to counsel individuals and companies facing federal criminal or civil investigations.
