Kevin Buckley is the leader of our Life Sciences Practice. He has substantial experience with matters at the intersection of business, science, and multiple areas of the law as it relates to pharmaceutical, medical device and biotechnology commercialization. Kevin Buckley is the leader of our Life Sciences Practice. He has substantial experience with matters at the intersection of business, science, and multiple areas of the law as it relates to pharmaceutical, medical device and biotechnology commercialization. His practice includes representing multinational corporations, private research institutes, university systems, trade associations, start-up companies, investors, and individual entrepreneurs. He was recently honored by his peers to be listed in The Best Lawyers in America® 2010 edition in the field of Biotechnology Law.

His practice particularly emphasizes intellectual property portfolio management including biotech and pharma patent procurement and opinion drafting, biopharmaceutical life-cycle strategy, regulatory compliance, and transactions relating to drug and biological product licenses, acquisitions, company alliances, and investments. Kevin’s experience on litigation teams includes obtaining final judgments or successfully settling patent infringement, patent interference, trademark infringement, copyright infringement, unfair competition, and trade secret claims.

Kevin is an adjunct professor at Washington University School of Law where he teaches Biotechnology Law. He also represents clients with respect to public policy matters including drafting and analyzing legislation pending before the U.S. Congress and the Missouri legislature related to economic development, stem cell technologies, and elementary and secondary education. He was Legislative Counsel to the Missouri Biotechnology Association from 2001 to 2005.

Prior to becoming an attorney, Kevin was a biochemist in both academics and industry where he investigated ribonucleic acid (RNA)-based therapeutics for treating viral infections, and purine nucleoside analogs for treating autoimmune diseases and cytokine mediated cell responses in apoptosis, autoimmune diseases, AIDS, and cancers.

Kevin received his law degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law where he was the Editor-in-Chief of The Pittsburgh Journal of Technology Law & Policy. He received his Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry from the University of California, San Diego where he was a Research Scholar. He is a registered patent attorney with the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office and is admitted to practice law in Missouri.
