R. Scott Kimsey

Scott is Of Counsel in the Intellectual Property & Technology Group and the Life Sciences Practice. He practices primarily patent prosecution, with a focus in the Life Sciences, and also handles trademark, copyright, and licensing issues.

Scott, a licensed patent attorney, earned a B.S. in Microbiology from California State University, Fresno, in 1993. After graduating Scott worked as a Biomedical Scientist at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory before undertaking graduate work in Biochemistry at the University of Missouri, Columbia.

Scott, a licensed patent attorney, earned a B.S. in Microbiology from California State University, Fresno, in 1993. After graduating Scott worked as a Biomedical Scientist at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory before undertaking graduate work in Biochemistry at the University of Missouri, Columbia.

Scott entered law school in 1997, also at the University of Missouri, Columbia, where he was a member of Law Review and graduated with the honor Order of the Coif.

Since graduating from law school, Scott has prosecuted numerous patent applications and been heavily involved in rendering legal opinion on validity, patentability, and freedom-to-operate. Scott has also presented oral arguments before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

Scott is admitted to practice to the Bar in Missouri, as well as the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
