Erik Solverud is co-chair of the firm’s Litigation & Dispute Resolution Practice Group and concentrates on complex commercial litigation, including trade secrets cases, defamation claims, non-compete litigation, shareholder disputes, telecommunications litigation, insurance coverage disputes and other business-related claims. Erik has represented both plaintiffs and defendants in a wide range of personal injury and wrongful death cases, including products liability claims, trucking litigation and nursing home malpractice cases. In addition, Erik also practices in the area of labor and employment litigation, where his experience includes litigating – and counseling employers how to avoid – claims involving non-competition, non-solicitation and confidentiality agreements; and defending employers against claims of age discrimination, misappropriation of trade secrets and failure to pay sales commissions.

Prior to joining the firm, Erik was an associate with Thompson Coburn, where his practice focused on complex commercial litigation, including insurance coverage disputes and business torts. He was a member of the Quincy College football team and was elected to the GTE/CoSIDA National Academic All-American Football Team.

Erik is admitted to practice in Missouri and Illinois, and before the United States District Courts for the Eastern District of Missouri and the Southern District of Illinois. He is a member of the American Bar Association, including its Section of Litigation, and the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis.

He served as Chair of the Board of Directors of Covenant House Missouri, a non-profit agency which provides shelter and support services to homeless, runaway and at-risk youth in the St. Louis area. Erik also served on the Board of Directors of Shelter the Children and the University of Missouri-St. Louis Friends Board.

Representative Experience

  • McKinley v. Nixon’s Farm Equipment (Jackson County Circuit Ct.). Successfully represented surviving family members in product liability/wrongful death action arising out of collision with over-width farm implement.
  • Southwestern Bell Telephone, L.P. v. Davidson Telecommunications, Inc. (U.S. Dist. Ct. E.D. Mo.). Successfully represented competitive local exchange carrier in suit brought by Southwestern Bell, attacking preferred marketing arrangement with a mall developer as an unlawful exclusive arrangement.
  • Kinergy Corporation v. Conveyor Dynamics Corporation, et al. (U.S. Dist. Ct. E.D. Mo.). Successfully represented defendant in action alleging misappropriation of trade secrets and unfair competition.
  • Ferguson Roofing v. Insurance Source Inc. (St. Louis County Circuit Ct.). Negotiated a favorable settlement against defendants claims of failure to procure workmen’s compensation insurance.
