Casey practices in Spencer Fane’s Labor & Employment and Litigation and Dispute Resolution Practice Groups. Casey’s practice focuses on all aspects of employment litigation as he defends employers in individual discrimination, harassment, or wage and hour claims. In addition, Casey provides guidance to employers looking for the best practices to avoid liability and litigation.
Prior to joining the firm as a lateral, Casey gained experience in general tort and contract litigation, product liability, medical malpractice, coverage disputes, and general insurance defense under commercial policies. Casey is licensed to practice before the state courts of Missouri and Kansas as well as the U.S. District Courts for the Western District of Missouri, and the District of Kansas.
Casey previously served as a research attorney at the Kansas Court of Appeals. Prior to the Court of Appeals, he completed a one-year fellowship with the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press in Washington, D.C. During law school, he interned as a legal research assistant with the Douglas County District Court.
Casey received his B.A. in English with minors in journalism and history in 1999 from Marquette University in Milwaukee. In 2005 he received his J.D. from the University of Kansas where he earned a Media, Law and Policy certificate and a CALI Excellence for the Future award for his Media Law Clinic course. He also was a recipient of the American Bar Association Forum on Communications Law scholarship. Prior to law school, Casey taught English at Rockhurst High School in Kansas City.
