Casey P. Murray practices in Spencer Fane’s Labor & Employment and Litigation and Dispute Resolution Practice Groups. Casey’s practice focuses on all aspects of employment litigation, with experience in defending employers in discrimination, harassment, and retaliation claims filed by employees with the EEOC, the Missouri Commission on Human Rights, the Kansas Human Rights Commission, the NLRB, and the Department of Labor. Casey provides an efficient defense of these claims from the initial charge stage all the way through trial. He also offers guidance and counsel to clients by assisting with difficult employment situations such as terminations or drafting or revising a company’s employee manual. In addition, Casey frequently works with employers to draft and enforce non-compete agreements.
In his litigation practice, Casey is an experienced appellate advocate who has argued before the Missouri Supreme Court and the Missouri Court of Appeals, Western District. He effectively and efficiently litigates in a variety of areas; most recently representing businesses in construction disputes and insurance coverage issues.
Prior to joining the firm as a lateral, Casey gained experience in general tort and contract litigation, product liability, medical malpractice, insurance coverage disputes, and general insurance defense under commercial policies. He previously served as a research attorney at the Kansas Court of Appeals. Prior to the Court of Appeals, he completed a one-year fellowship with the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press in Washington, D.C. During law school, he interned as a legal research assistant with the Douglas County District Court.
Casey received his B.A. in English from Marquette University in Milwaukee. In 2005 he received his J.D. from the University of Kansas where he was a recipient of the American Bar Association Forum on Communications Law scholarship. Before law school, Casey taught English at Rockhurst High School in Kansas City.
